Alstonville is our community
Alstonville is our world.
When we first took over Alstonville Holistic Gym, we rebranded it Edge Fitness Alstonville. Because, at the time, we lived on the edge… and we fully intended to drag you there with us too. (Haven’t times changed. We were slightly crazy BUT fun.)
Most of you wouldn’t know this, but before Edge Fitness Alstonville, we were right there in the main street – where Pure Fitness is now. We were called My Own Gym (story for another time). So being the fresh-faced dreamers we were, we paid an extraordinary amount of money to a fancy Sydney marketing company to “help us build the brand.”
Back then it was Me, Rachel and Janelle running the show… and apparently according to this Sydney company, we knew absolutely nothing about marketing. Nothing. The year was 2014.
After handing over what felt like a house deposit, we had a lightbulb moment. City companies take your money… but they can’t bottle your heart. They were not great. So what did we do?
We grabbed the gym kids. We grabbed our members. We made our own budget ad. And then we basically showered Alstonville with it.
Events
Street Parades
Roundabouts
The Plaza carpark (the management - loved us..)
And here’s the thing… we weren’t trying to take over the Northern Rivers. We weren’t trying to become some mega gym empire. We just wanted to make a few ripples in little old Alstonville. And that’s where our first big marketing mistake happened…
We spent big-city money on a small-town mission. And honestly? It was one of the best mistakes we ever made.
Because what we learnt was this:
We didn’t need Sydney.
We didn’t need flashy agencies.
We just needed our people, our energy, and our town.
And the funniest part? That marketing drive. The DIY one. The one that got people talking. Was the most fun we’ve ever had. No boardrooms. No buzzwords. Just sweat, laughs, and a whole lot of Edge Fitness Alstonville.
Check out our Ad. It gives off Fat Pizza (Aussie TV show). It brought life to our little community of Alstonville.
These awesome kids were 15 back then.
And we are still here.
Enjoy this trip down 11 years ago.
